World Numbat Day

World Numbat Day is celebrated every first Saturday in November.

World Numbat Day is an initiative of Project Numbat to protect the numbat from extinction.

Numbat is not an insult. If it was, then it would be an ineffective one, because numbats ( Myrmecobius fasciatus) are incredibly cute looking creatures.
This extraordinary creature is a marsupial, living in Australia.
The numbat is definitely not one of the dangerous creatures that Australia is infaous for……at least when you are not an insect.
Their favorite food seem to be termites which they lick up with their sticky tongue which is as long as 25% of their own body!

Numbats are the champions of ‘mlem‘!

Mlem: (adjective)
onomatopoeia for the supposed sound
of a tongue going in and out of the mouth (like in licking).
