Boston Cream Pie Day is celebrated every year on October 23.

According to the owners of the Parker House Hotel in Boston,  the Boston cream pie was first created at the hotel by renowned French chef Augustine Francois Anezin in 1856.
Back then, the creation was simply called “Chocolate Cream Pie”.
The ‘Chocolate Cream Pie’ was a variation on the ‘American Pudding-Cake Pie’ and ‘Washington Pie’.
But was eventually renamed the ‘Boston Cream Pie’ to reflect where it came from.
The first mention of it’s first name ‘Chocolate Cream Pie’ first was in the 1872 “Methodist Almanac”.

Back then, chocolate frosting was not as widely used as it is now.
Using this much chocolate in a dessert was considered amazingly decadent.
