The first annual tree planting day that is still celebrated in the present began in Nebraska on April 10, 1872.
To celebrate an annual meeting, the Secretary of Agriculture, Julius Sterling Morton, organized a tree planting of about one million trees!
This improved the landscape of Nebraska and people became eager to celebrate an annual National Arbor Day.When Birdsey Northrop of Connecticut visited Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia he talked so enthusiastically about Arbor Day that the holiday became international.
Many arbor days are celebrated on the date of last Friday in April, but over time this date began to change in countries that chose another date more significant to their culture.
