🐤 January 28 was the birthday of Robert Stroud, better known as the Birdman of Alcatraz. |
||
Robert Stroud received a life sentence in jail for not getting along with humans (to put it mildly). With the possibilities of criminal activities being seriously hampered, Robert was able to concentrate more on his passion for ornithology, which means everything about birds. He developed a considerable aviary with canaries and helped sick and orphaned wild birds that he found. While caring for these birds and studying them, he had all the time of the world now to do that, he wrote several books about his bird studies and smuggled the manuscripts to the outside world where they were published. His research provided valuable information to improve healthcare for birds worldwide. Stroud got the nickname “Birdman of Alcatraz” from the 1955 book by Thomas E. Gaddis. |
