In a highball glass mix 3 or 4 mint leaves, 2 teaspoons of water and 1 teaspoon of sugar or syrup. Add a generous amount of crushed ice and 6 cl of whiskey. Stir well (don’t shake) and garnish with a mint sprig or mint colored umbrella. 🍹 |
Mint juleps are usually served in a highball glass, but some people insist on a silver julep cup. |
The mint julep originated in the southern United States. The earliest known mentions comes from the 1770 satirical play “the Candidate” by Robert Munford, and “A Short Poem on Hunting” published in the Williamsburg Virginia Gazette.

The word “julep” is derived from the Spanish “julepe”. It’s usually defined as a sweet drink, particularly one used as a basis to make medicine easier to consume. A glass full of julep makes the medicine go down! |
