World Photography Day

When:
August 19

Where:
Everywhere

First occurrence:
2010

On August 19, 1839
the French government announced
the invention
of a photographic processes,
the daguerreotype,
as a gift free to the world!

Daguerreotype was invented by artist and photographer
Louis Daguerre. It was one of the first techniques to
make photographs
with incredibly high resolution.

Leaving this technique free to use and copy enabled inventors
all over the world to improve photography techniques in a
much faster pace.
In just a few decades the daguerreotype was
replaced by easier and cheaper alternatives.

And eventually we have the techniques that we enjoy today.

Still though, fanatic photographers still like to use daguerreotype
just for the joy of using the methods that paved the ways
of capturing the visual world picture perfectly.

First they frame you.
Then they shoot you.
Then they hang you on the wall.
