Rapture Party Day
|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every year that begins at 00:00 on day 21 of May, repeating indefinitely
|Created gloomily by Harold Camping in 2001
|In 2001 Harold Camping announced on Family Radio that in 10 years May 21, 2011, Jesus Christ would return to Earth and the Rapture would definitely happen at 06:00PM in each time zone. Then 5 months later on October 21, 2011, Judgment Day would follow for everyone not taken by the Rapture.
This broadcast went so viral that many followers sold their possessions, some even started fanatical campaigns to “save souls” from the Final Judgment.
Camping egged these happenings by predicting that 2011 would be rife with destruction and plundering from the panic for the End of Times.
On the other hand, atheists and religious people who were also highly skeptical about Campings’ prediction, organized Rapture Parties on May 21 to join in on the fun.
May 21, 2011 went by and no raptures seemed to have happened.
So, was he mistaken? Or was it just a scam to get easy money from frightened people?
Just like his prediction for 1994, by the way. He said he was mistaken and it was another day. And likewise after May 21, 2011, he moved the goalpost to October 21 which no longer counted as Judgment Day but the new day for the Rapture. And this date also went by with not a single rapture reported…
Let’s check each year if this year the Rapture will happen!
