Saxophone Day celebrates the birthday of Adolphe Sax,
creator of the saxophone.

Adolphe Sax named the saxophone after himself and patented it in 1846.
There was just the slight little problem that the first saxophones were not really easy to play.
It took many revisions by other instrument builders to make the saxophone easier to use before the saxophone actually became popular.

Adolphe Sax didn’t live long enough to profit from the improvements and died in poverty.
It was in the decades after his death that saxophones became more accessible and gained popularity in the beginning of the 1900s for its uses in orchestra’s and much later on in the jazz genre from where it became more creatively applied in many other music genres.
