Catnip is a nice looking plant with purple flowers of the family Nepeta.
Catnip is also known as catwort or catmint.
Catnip seems to give cats a very mild and short euphoric effect that wears off quickly, but not every cat is affected equally by catnip.
Recent researches show that cats might be mainly attracted by the parasite-repelling effects of catnip, with the pleasant smell as a pleasing by effect.
