World Tapir Day was created in honor of the tapir called “April” who lived at the Belize Zoo. April was born on April 27 in 1983. She lived for 30 years of fame being the most recognizable representation of the national animal of Belize. April left for Rainbow Bridge on October 31, 2013, which made her officially the oldest living tapir Aprils’ birthday in 2008 was visited by the minister of state and her birthday was from then on officially declared to be World Tapir Day.
