Celebrated every year on November 18.
Push Button Phone Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the first electronic push button telephone being sold in 1963 by Bell Telephone in Pennsylvania.
We think of pushing buttons on a telephone as something old fashioned already now that we have touch screens and voice dialing.
Before that time, the dial disc existed on phones since the
beginning of when we could dial our own numbers on the phones till long after the push button phones were introduced.
The idea to have phones with push buttons existed already in the late 19th century and we could really wonder why we had to deal with the frustrating disc dial for so long.
But apparently, the technology involved with telephone signals stood in the way of being used with button signals for quite a while.
“The telephone is a good way to talk to people without having to offer them a drink.”
