Saxophone Day is celebrated every year on November 6.

The date chosen for Saxophone Day is the birthday of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.
Mister Sax also invented the saxtuba, the saxhorn and the saxotromba.

But it was the saxophone, patented in 1846, that got the most success.
Except….that the first saxophones were really really hard to play.
It took many revisions by other instrument builders to make the saxophone easier to use before the saxophone became popular.
Adolphe Sax died in poverty.

It was in the decades after his death that saxophones became more accessible and gained popularity in the beginning of the 1900s for it’s uses in orchestra’s and much later on in the jazz genre from where it became more creatively applied in many other music genres.
