Underdog day was created in 1976 by Peter Moelle to honor backup staff, unsung heroes and other people who’s accomplishments are overlooked.

1. the beaten dog in a dog fight
2. a competitor thought to have little chance of winning a fight or contest.
3. a person who has little status in society.
