Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Also known as World Freedom Day
The separation of Germany in a West and East Germany began originally as a safety measure to end the second World War for good. But in the following years this border would turn into a grave political wall and eventually in a physical wall preventing anyone from freely going in or out. Inhabitants of East Europe became trapped. Safe from the evils of capitalism, but victim to the oppression of dictatorship.
This day in history East Europe and West Europe were finally able to connect again after decades of political separation.
Thanks to a miscommunication in bureaucracy and media, the people started flooding the Wall and made it fall, literally and figuratively.
This event contributed amongst many other factors to the end of the chilling Cold War two years later.
