Celebrated every year on November 19.
World Toilet Day was created in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization (WTO).
The goal is to raise awareness that practical, hygienic toilets, that we like to take for granted, are not available to everybody in the world.
Even today some regions in this world struggle with circumstances that prevent them from having adequate plumbing or other practical problems exist.
The UN joined the cause in 2013 as part of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): “to ensure availability and sustainable management of sanitation and water for all by 2030.”
Having safe and sanitary toilets improves living standards and health for humans and environment alike.
That is why the reason that World Toilet Day is no laughing matter.
“When the shit hits the fan,
you really have to ask yourself
why you weren’t sitting on the toilet.”
